These are two senior roles working across the Sector Performance Policy Directorate of MAF.The Sector Performance Directorate provides analysis and advice on issues affecting the performance of the agriculture, forestry and horticulture sectors, associated industries, and rural communities.
The Group's focus is on the role of government in setting the environment for the production, processing and marketing of the sector's products, the impact of government policies on rural New Zealand, and working with industry participants to maximise the potential contribution of the sectors to growth and innovation in the New Zealand economy.
The Group's major tasks are providing policy options and advice for the government, working jointly with sectors, and developing legislation and regulations. The group also has an operational role with respect to adverse events. In addition the group plays a lead role in delivering the Primary Growth Partnership (PGP) — a government-industry initiative that invests in significant programmes of research and innovation to boost economic growth and sustainability across the primary sectors.
The Senior Investment Analyst will work with the sectors and government colleagues to ensure that high quality investments, generating significant returns to the primary sector and that meet the ‘public good' test are put to the PGP Investment Advisory Panel (IAP) for their consideration and subsequent advice to the Director General of MAF.
A strong business background is highly desirable and public policy experience would be an advantage for these positions.
You'll work with those in government and industry whose decisions affect the profitability and sustainability of the Dairy, Meat, Forestry, Horticulture, Viticulture, Wool and other primary sectors.
